A Little About Gabby
We kept Gabby from her mothers final litter here as a possible show dog
and future brood bitch in order to continue that particular arm of our program.
Unfortunately Gabby never achieved the height size we need nor the substance either.
I decided this summer that Gabby, while very bouncy and full of spark, was better
off as a nice, fit family pet. Gabby has been a country girl here since her birth
last spring. She enjoys a fenced in yard, lots of play time with the gang here
and attended the occasional dog show as a puppy. Personality wise if she was a
human, she would be one out trying extreme sports and testing herself 'Yah, I
can do that, no problem.' I guess you could say she is a tomboy. She can be a
little intense and initally also be a little stand-offish but warms up. I have found that while
she enjoys the company of other dogs' as she has found her place within a pack structure,
she is a little anxious-so much going on and wants to keep her paw in everyones
bucket as it were. I think that she will be much better as a single dog OR with
a mature dog who has a strong sense of self and good pack leadership skills so
Gabby gets that she has a leader to follow. She has house manners but I would
not say she is push button house trained. Good in a crate, and used to one to
sleep in or travel, she knows not to jump up on furnature or counters. She would
not be trustworthy to leave loose and alone in a house at this point in her training.
She has not messed in the house under supervision and doesn't appear to chew anything
that is not a dog toy. Speaking of dog toys, Gabby loves to retrieve and is happy
working on a Kong toy or a Nyla bone. She has had some leash work and new owners
will certainly need to enroll in some obedience classes with her. In her conformation
training, she walks/gaits smartly at heel and will stand to be examined. The basics
of 'sit', 'down' are being worked on but she is good to 'Gabby come!' in the yard. She is food modivated and
that helps with training.
Gabby is up to date in all her shots and recently was spayed. She has enjoyed good health, 58lbs., and other than a trip into the vet
to stitich up a scratch she got this summer in the yard, has been maintance free. Her vet records are to be transferred when she leaves here.
What We Want For Gabby
I am looking for a mature, active home for Gabby and someone to be her obvious
pack leader. That means no small children or elderly people, Gabby is too active
for either nor is she used to living with them. She needs someone who will give
her good, regular walks a few times a day, will continue her training and socialization
and allow her to be part of the family as she does seek that company. Anyone who
jogs, rollerblades or hikes will find a ready friend in Gabby. She doesn't need
an overly social doggy lifestyle and while she plays well with other dogs, she
is best suited to mature dogs who can deal with her activity level and can send
a clear signal about their alpha position. She is not used to cats or other small
family pets and having a fairly high prey drive, I would not place her in a home
with either. A fully fenced in yard is a must. She goes on a trail run, for two
weeks to a month to make sure new family and Gabby are the right match. Her CKC
papers will be transferred upon the end of the trial period.
I am in no hurry to place Gabby, the right fit is paramount.
